LESSON 3
Changing situations
Objective:
Predict the change of emotions according to different situations.
Anticipatory set:
“Today we are going to look how our emotions can change. Everyone knows that a lot of things can happen during a day. Some of these things can be good and some of the things can be bad. If the things are changing in better we are going to be happier and happier. But sometimes things can go wrong and we can change from being very happy to very sad. It is very normal for humans to change emotions.”

Procedures: The teacher will start with the presentation of the Kidspiration activity “A day on the beach.”

UDL: high functioning students will read and analyze a short story about a simple event.

Initial instruction:
The teacher will ask the students to think about a very busy day when they did something very interesting.

Guided practice:
The teacher will use the Smart Board to demonstrate how by making choices people can have their day look different. The students will be instructed to imagine what else can happen on their special day if they would have done something else.
The teacher will ask the students to have at least 3 or 4 different scenarios for each different day they want to write about. For each scenario the students will have 2 or 3 emotions.
UDL: high functioning students will use words to write about their day. Lower functioning students will cut and paste picture on a premade diagram.
Independent practice:
On a piece of paper the students will write in the middle the main theme of the day. The students will draw an arrow for each new scenario and write what happened and how they felt during that time.
Evaluation: By the end of the week the students will have a number of at least 3 situations with different scenarios and emotions for each one of them.
Performance Evaluation: The students will sequence the events in a logical and chronological order and label each situation with the correct type of emotion.
UDL: high functioning students will use groups of emotions such as: Happy, excited, overjoyed, glad. Lower functioning students will use group of emotions such as happy, a little happy and very happy .
